Pluto & Persephone
Our statue of "Pluto and Persephone" is based upon an ancient Macedonian tomb painting. Persephone was the daughter of Demeter, goddess of the earth and the harvest. Pluto, the great god of the underworld, rode up on his chariot and kidnapped her, taking her down to Hades. As they entered Hades, they passed by Cerberus, the three-headed dog that guards the gates of the Underworld to keep the dead from leaving. This dramatic sculpture captures the moment when, after kidnapping Persephone, Pluto is dragging her down to his Underworld. The statue with dramatic gestures give a sense of emotion as Persephone tries in vain to flee from the powerful Pluto. At their feet is the guardian dog of the Underworld, Cerberus. Statue is done in white with minute detail right down to the teeth on the dog Cerberus. Stands 14" in height, base is 5" x 5" square. Weight: 6.07 lbs
